Elixir Events from Werkhoven organizes wine tastings at your home. This is possible from 4 people up to and including larger groups. Shadé Polman is the professional who set up Elixir Events. And recently brought to the Netherlands. Until a few months ago, Shadé lived and worked in Dubai. And before that in South Africa where she studies at the famous Cape Wine Academy. Her life is steeped in wine and entrepreneurship.
After studying Hotel Management, Shadé started working as a restaurant manager in a 5-star hotel. She quickly realized that her skills were not unique. Many fellow students were looking for a job at the time. That’s why she decided to specialize. “I always try to look at where my ambitions lie, but where there is also a market for. The choice is on wine cases. Although a tasting over distilled is also possible. In the meantime, I have gained the necessary knowledge and experience.”
A cheese board belongs to a wine taster
EXPERT WINE AND FOOD After her studies in South Africa, she immediately started working. Soon she moved to Dubai. There she joined The Tasting Class. As an expert in wine and food, she quickly took the concept to the next level. The service package expanded to include courses and training on wine.
“Now that I’m back, I want to further expand my company Elixir Events”,says Shadé enthusiastically. She not only works for individuals but also for companies. “I have a nice collaboration with a local cheesemonger that I am very proud of, for example. Because of the long time living and working abroad, I have lost sight of the companies in my current environment. I’m going to reinvent that and I’m really looking forward to that.”
PLAYFULLY Another collaboration is with a chocolate maker. “Chocolate and wine go so well together” , says Shadé. “I can tell you a lot about that and especially let you taste it.” Shadé’s tastings are an experience. “I am not bound to a brand, so sales are not my goal. My goal is fun and transfer knowledge.” She has developed her own method in which play and interaction are central. “I created a placemat with a taste wheel. This way I take you on a wine journey and teach you to recognize and articulate flavours.”

PRACTICAL The costs for a tasting are from € 15,- per person and take about two hours. This can be at your home or on location. Minimum number of participants is 4 people. The tasting can be expanded with a luxury cheese board. Since Shadé does not represent a brand, you can submit a specific application, such as a wine tasting with only South African wines. “I’m open to ideas”, Shadé adds.
